River Cree Resort and Casino hosts last event on Feb. 26
With MFC: 23 Unstoppable marking the promotion's 18th-straight sellout, it's about time to move on to bigger, if not better, things.
The Venue at the River Cree Resort and Casino will host a combined MFC/Heat XC event on Feb. 26 before the MFC switches locations for their next show.
On April 9, they will debut at the Winspear Centre.
"It's bigger, the viewing is better and I'm very excited about going to the Winspear Centre," said MFC president Mark Pavelich. "We've already attracted numerous sponsors -- more than usual -- because we are going there."
If selling out their 18 previous shows is any indication, it won't be too hard to fill more seats at a bigger venue.
"I think the demand is there for the Maximum Fighting Championship, I don't believe the demand is there for people in mixed-martial arts right now because there is an overabundance of shows going out of business," Pavelich said.
But the crowd isn't the only sizable thing the MFC has going in its favour.
"By far, we have the biggest roster in the country and right now we probably have the top-three in the world right after the UFC," Pavelich said.
"We have a very deep roster of fighters and that's one thing that people are starting to really notice right now."
Local flavour
Eight Alberta fighters appeared on the MFC 23 card, including Jason MacDonald, Ryan Jimmo, Dwayne Lewis, Ryan Fortin, Nick Penner, Ryan Machan and Kenny Hamilton.
"I get digged on lots for that," Pavelich said. "I'm a proud Albertan, at the same time our show is very global now. I've just started this show to recruit more local fighters from Alberta to fight in the Maximum Fighting Championship.
"We have very high level fighters here, Nick Penner being one of them. People are moving here, like Ryan Jimmo. He's not from here, he moved here because of the Maximum Fighting Championship and the training."
