Trio all earn top recognition from Inside MMA
The Maximum Fighting Championship captured three nominations from HDNet’s Inside MMA for their annual Bazzie Awards.
The Bazzies, named after legendary fighter, Inside MMA co-host, and superb fight analyst Bas Rutten, were handed out last week with the MFC receiving votes in three high-profile categories. Already having earned the MFC’s Fight of the Year honor, the Mike Nickels-David Heath war from MFC 22 picked up a nomination from Inside MMA as its Fight of the Year.
“Look at this – these guys just challenge each other, just come and hit me, come and hit me,” said Rutten in describing the wild encounter. “And that’s what happened, and Nickels finally finished it with a rear-naked choke. That could almost have been Blood Bath and Fight of the Year.”
Another Bazzie nominee had also claimed an MFC award – Pete Spratt’s Knockout of the Year from MFC 22. Spratt ended a great battle with Nathan Gunn with a vicious uppercut.
“Nathan Gunn … two N’s in his last name … does he have that double punch there?” reflected Rutten. “Nice little uppercut underneath the armpit almost. Oh, there he goes. Yeah that will take your lights out. Poof! Came all the way from the hip.”
The other Bazzie nominee from the MFC was light heavyweight Mychal Clark picking up kudos for his ring entrance at MFC 21 complete with theatrical face mask and interpretive dance.
