New "Kid" on the block:
Fi iller - Matt Miller Mar 13, 2008
"The Kid" is back on track! After two disappointing back to back losses in
two different weight classes, Ryan McGillivray is back on the winning track. Mentality after winning 5 fights in a row a loss would be draining, now 2
losses would play a huge factor in your emotional and physical state.
Time off was not an option for "The Kid" like it is for Ryan Heck (5-1)
who's taking time to regroup after suffering his first loss at MFC 15.
McGillivray showed ton's of heart by battling through his 2 losses and
getting back on track.
Coming into his fight at MFC 15 the kid looked careless almost like he was
free of stress, like a weight was lifted of his shoulders because the
pressure of winning was gone. His confident/cocky swagger was still not
gone, which is a trait you need to have in this business. The only
difference between the old McGillivray who went (5-2) and the one who
absolutely dominated dangerous Jason Zorthian to go 1-0 was emotion and
passion into just "fighting" and leaving it all on the line.
The old McGillivray and the New McGillivray have a combined record of 6
win's and 2 losses and if the kid use's his new found anger and brings it
with him in every fight he will be very hard to finish. Being "Mean" is just
part of fighting, we can say that MMA is a sport all day long (which it is)
but at the same time it's still a "Fight" and the person in the other corner
is really trying to hurt you to finish you off and if you don't have that
attitude you shouldn't be in the ring/cage.
PROBLEM: McGillivray need's to train, he did in fact look out of shape in
his last performance against Zorthian - I'm not taking anything away from
his win but he also did not make weight and to me this is a slap in the face
to your opponent and to yourself. Now if the kid train's as hard as he has
in the past and use's his new aggressive outlook into this sport we will
have another contender in the already stacked welterweight division.
NEXT UP: Two extremely well rounded fighters's who both look like they should run for office instead of being professional MMA fighter's will go
head to head at MFC 16: Anger Management. If there's a fighter that looks
like less of a fighter then Ryan McGillivray the award would go to the
Undefeated Gavin "Smack's" Neil. Neil has a (3-0) MMA record and with a
kickboxing background it seems odd that he has been submitting all of his
opponents. McGillivray vs. Neil will be a fight that answered a lot of
questions in the welterweight division. People want to know is "The Kid"
really back? Will his aggressive live on or was it a one fight deal? Can the
kid really make it in this game?...We know how good Neil's chin his has he
was hit with everything but the kitchen sink against American Groves at MFC
15 but. can he handle "The Kid's ground game? Will he be able to make this
step up in competition? Will Neil be able to be a contender in the MFC
welterweight division?
All these questions will be answered has the both step in the ring to face
off against each other at MFC 16: Anger Management Live on HDnet Friday May
9th.
