So what's next for the 29-year-old? Who knows, he may end up fighting back in his home country with the Edmonton-based Maximum Fighting Championship. He came very close to taking a fight there against current welterweight contender Ryan Ford of Edmonton, but the money just wasn't right. Instead Ford took on Spratt and beat him by rear naked choke.

But Alessio said he isn't completely impressed with the kid the promotion is touting as the next big thing in MMA.

"That whole fight (between Ford and Spratt) to me was sloppy," Alessio said. "They were throwing each other around like amateurs. He's got a lot of hype around him, but Ryan Ford doesn't impress me and he wants to get on the internet and say he's the next (Georges St. Pierre) and GSP better watch out. (Saying) he's been training for 10 months and he's this good. …

"I'd love to stop him in his tracks and let everybody know that he's not that good. I think he needs to get his feet wet a little more."
